Sutlac is a mild-flavored Turkish rice pudding, which is baked to perfection! Subtle flavored yet so comforting and refreshing dessert with a nice caramelized top! This one will be a perfect treat on your Iftar table! What attracted me to this recipe was the baking part! You may skip the baking part, but you know baking makes this super simple dessert a fancy-looking one!
Here I used fast-cooking Egyptian parboiled rice and small-grained rice which we used to make biriyani or kheer! You may use any of your favorites here! Hope you will love it too! My friends wiped the pot within seconds!
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup rice (i used 1/4 cup parboiled rice and 1/4 cup small grained rice)
- 2 cups water
- 5 cups milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp custard powder
- 1 & 1/2 tbsp cornflour#
- vanilla essence
- A pinch of salt
Method
- Cook the rice first with water.
- Mix cornflour and custard in 1/4 cup milk and keep it aside.
- Once the rice is done, pour the milk little by little and let it come to a boil.
- When it starts to boil, pour the cornflour mix and stir continuously without leaving your hands.
- Add sugar when it started to thicken and mix well. Check the consistency and pour the milk if needed.
- The consistency should be creamy yet flowy.
- Then pour it in ramakins or baking tray and bake it @200 degrees preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the top is browned.
- Take it out and chill it once it’s at room temp. You may serve it without baking too. Enjoy!
