As you all know, every Ramadan I share simple and delicious recipes to make your iftar planning easier and help you plan your dishes without stress and spending hours in the kitchen. Starting the 2026 Ramadan series with this Savoury Star Bread: The Show-Stopping Centrepiece You’ll Want to Pull Apart

There’s something magical about bread that’s meant to be shared. Savoury star bread is exactly that kind of bake: golden, fluffy layers of dough twisted into a beautiful star, with pockets of savoury filling tucked into every pull-apart piece. I was literally dancing with joy when this bread came out of the oven—perfect, golden, and everything I hoped for. This one’s been on my bucket list forever, and I finally did it.

The bread is incredibly soft and fluffy, with a slight tang from the addition of yogurt. The filling is just as special—a flavour-packed Chicken 65 filling that you’ll instantly fall in love with.Perfect for Iftar table,brunch tables, festive spreads, or as a tear-and-share snack with drinks, savoury star bread is as versatile as it is beautiful.

Ingredeints

  • 3/4th cup of warm milk
  • 1 tbsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 3 cups all purpose flour

For Stuffing

  • 300 gm boneless chicken cut into small pieces
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp fennel powder
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp yogurt

Marinate the chicken, Pour some oil and shallow fry the chciken.

  • 2 medium onion or one large
  • 1 small bell pepper
  • 2 or 3 green chillies
  • curry leaves and cilantro chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • salt to taste

Method

  1. Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the pan and keep aside.
  2. In the same pan, add 2 tbsp butter.
  3. Add curry leaves, chopped cilantro, and green chillies. Sauté well until aromatic.
  4. Add the onions and cook until soft.
  5. Add the bell pepper and cook until slightly tender but still crisp.
  6. Add tomato ketchup, tomato paste, and a splash of water. Let it simmer for a minute.
  7. Add the fried chicken and mix well.
  8. Cover and cook for a few minutes, then switch off the flame. Allow the filling to cool before using.

Method for Savoury Star Bread

Preparing the Dough

  1. In a bowl, add warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Mix gently and let it rest for 5 minutes until slightly frothy.
  2. Add yogurt, melted butter, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and bring the dough together.
  4. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until soft, smooth, and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping the Star Bread

  1. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 3 equal portions.
  2. Roll each portion into a 10 inch circle.
  3. Place one circle on a lined baking tray. Spread a thin, even layer of the prepared Chicken 65 filling over it.
  4. Place the second circle on top and spread the mozzarella cheese.
  5. Place the third circle on top and leave it plain.
  6. Using a small bowl or glass, lightly mark the centre of the dough (do not cut through).
  7. Cut the dough into 16 equal strips, leaving the centre intact.
  8. Take two adjacent strips, twist them away from each other twice, and pinch the ends together to form a point.
  9. Repeat with the remaining strips to create a star shape.

Final Rise & Baking

  1. Cover the shaped bread loosely and let it rest for 20–30 minutes.
  2. Brush the top with egg wash for a golden finish.
  3. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Remove from the oven and brush with butter if desired.

Serving

Serve warm and enjoy pulling apart this soft, fluffy star bread filled with flavourful Chicken 65 goodness. Perfect for iftar sharing
